All of our Tetsubin (cast-iron teapots), Artisan Teapots (forged-iron teapots) and Trivets (cast-iron teapot coasters) are handcrafted by skilled artisans in Japan’s most famous metalworking district. They are prized for their balanced, lightweight construction, one-of-a-kind variations, rich history and incredible longevity and sturdiness.
The Tetsubin have handles that rotate smoothly and do not pop out or stick like those on sub-par Tetsubin. The Artisan Teapots have fixed handles that are often connected to the body of the pot with some kind of unique visual highlight. Many of our Tetsubin and Artisan Teapots have symbolic “finials” (knobs atop the lids).
In Japan, iron teapots are rarely sold with built-in strainers or interior finishes. All of our tetsubin have an interior finish and filter for ease of use. Unless otherwise noted, our Artisan Teapots remain traditional and do not have filters or interior finishes.
To keep your brewing temperature consistent and your tea hot for an extended period of time, fill your iron teapots with hot water for a few minutes before you begin brewing. Discard the water, add the leaves and brew with fresh hot water.
